VAL is a collective of NYC architects and designers formed to aid pandemic recovery in the hard-hit neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens. VAL is working closely with the 82nd Street Partnership, a local non-profit, to provide free tools, prototypes and programming to safely reopen and to heal communally.

To date, VAL has provided outdoor seating construction and other reopening assistance to twenty-one local restaurants, spatial consultation to four cultural organizations, three public space installation designs, and ongoing advocacy to the city through proposals for plazas, permanent public seating areas, and events for the safe celebration of local traditions. Jackson Heights is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world - we are grateful that members of the community have generously shared their rich culture and resilient spirit with us.
